The Pair of Thieves Men’s Ankle Socks are a disappointment. While popular, when we put them to the test, we found that they fell apart rather quickly.
In this review, we’ll take a detailed look at these socks, including construction, performance, ventilation, and more.
Construction & Design
The Pair of Thieves Men’s Ankle Socks are made from a blend of the following materials:
- Cotton – 65%
- Polyester – 32%
- Spandex – 2%
- Nylon – 1%
This is fairly standard for a pair of socks, therefore don’t expect anything noteworthy here.
Height
The height of the ankle sock rises to approximately 5.5”. We found this height suitable to wear with most ankle-high boots such as a Chelsea or Chukka boot.
Cushion
There is a cushion to the foot bed. While marketed as having a ‘sport cushion,’ we didn’t find that it was measurably more comfortable than your standard pair of casual socks.
Logo
When it comes to branding, you’ll find these socks have a small mask on one side of the ankle. You can easily cover the logo with pants. The logo measures approximately .25” H by .75” W.
Additionally, the logo is only on one side of the sock.
Performance & Durability
The performance of the Pair of Thieves Men’s Ankle Socks failed in many areas.
When wearing the socks for only a few hours, we found that they transferred a significant amount of lint to the surface of the skin:
This excessive amount of lint will make a mess on your floor (especially carpet) once you begin to walk around after taking the socks off.
Within one month of purchase, and several walks later, the Pair of Thieves Men’s Ankle Socks began to exhibit a thinning footbed:
Despite the marketed ‘sport cushion,’ the socks fell apart rather quickly – rendering the cushioning useless.
Ventilation
One shining point to the Pair of Thieves Men’s Ankle Socks is that they feature a mesh instep.
This extra ventilation allows for an increase in airflow, which helps to decrease moisture and odor-causing bacteria.
Fit Security
Ribbed fabric surrounds the sole to provide extra security to the socks:
This little detail helps to prevent the socks from slipping off when worn.
Demonstration
Here’s how the Pair of Thieves Men’s Ankle Socks look when worn with a couple of different shoes.
Here’s how the socks look when worn with a pair of Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66s:
And here’s how the socks look when paired with the Huckberry Rhodes Chukka Boots:
As you can see, the 5.5” height of the ankle sock allows them to complement either a casual shoe or slightly more formal dress boot with no problem.
Washing Requirements
Cleaning the Pair of Thieves Men’s Ankle Socks is standard. Machine wash and tumble dry with like colors.
Color Variety
You can find the Pair of Thieves Men’s Ankle Socks in various colors and patterns to suit your style preference.
Value
We paid $12.99 for our pair of socks, which included three pairs. This results in a price of $4.33 per pair. When you consider alternative socks, even those from mass-produced brands like Fruit of the Loom or Hanes, the Pair of Thieves Men’s Ankle Socks are not worth the elevated price.
Rating
Overall, we were disappointed with the performance of the Pair of Thieves Men’s Ankle Socks. The transfer of lint onto feet along with the quickly degrading footbed cannot be overlooked. You are better off finding alternative ankle socks, especially if you walk extensively.
Pros:
- Ribbed sole prevents the sock from slipping off.
- Small logo on the ankle is easy to hide if necessary.
- Mesh top allows for cooler feet.
Cons:
- Major durability issues.
- Overpriced given the lack of quality.
Overall Rating: 2/5
